The lecture focused on the prospects of developing a petroleum industry in Cyprus. The introduction covered the present petroleum context, the importance of oil and gas in the global economy and the energy mix, the supply and demand situation today, as well as the strategies of the main players. These of course are factors affecting the development of a petroleum industry in a new player in the industry, like Cyprus. The lecture also elaborated on learning from previous experiences, amongst them the Dutch disease, the oil curse, the Norwegian example and the French paradox.

Professor Constantinos Christofides, Rector of the University of Cyprus and Dr Symeon Kassianides, President and CEO of Hyperion Systems Engineering Ltd delivered the welcoming remarks at this Third Hyperion Lecture.
