A study in 2009 estimated that more than 25,000 currently active companies, founded by MIT alumni, employ about 3.3 million people and generate annual world sales of $2 trillion, producing the equivalent of the eleventh-largest economy in the world!

What are the factors that have established MIT as one of the most successful universities in the world in fostering creation of successful companies?

During the lecture, Professor Evans discussed the success factors and how others can benefit from the lessons learned.

He provided a number of examples, including some from his own experience in founding Aspen Technology as a startup in 1981 and growing it to become today the largest supplier of technical software to the chemical process industries.

The event began with a welcome opening by Professor Constantinos Christophides, Rector of the University of Cyprus, followed by Dr. Symeon Kassianides, President and CEO of Hyperion Systems Engineering Ltd. who introduced Professor Lawrence Evans, giving a brief outline of his many achievements and recognition awards he received during his career as a renowned academic and a successful entrepreneur.

Professor Evans took the podium and delivered an inspiring lecture which was followed by a vivid Questions and Answers session chaired by Mr. Stavros Spanos, Executive VP of Hyperion Systems Engineering.

The evening concluded with a cocktail reception, where members of the audience had the opportunity to meet Larry Evans in person.
